Talking to the reporters on chances of former Indian skipper Ganguly making a return to the ODI side, Vishy said, ''It's certainly not over for Sourav Ganguly. He still has some cricket left in him. Besides, he has not retired and is available for selection.
But the way the current team is playing it will be difficult for him to return to the ODI squad.'' Having said this, Vishy, who is here as the NCA batting coach for the zonal camp, added, ''I am not saying that he has to prove himself. But a few good knocks at the first class level will force the selectors to talk about him.'' The man who reinvented square-cut, Viswanath refused to be dragged into the selection process or whether Ganguly had got the stick for nothing.
He said, ''I am not there in the selection process and I dont know what is happening inside. If I was there I could have told you.
I am not the best person to comment on this matter.'' Asked whether the southpaw should be in the Test team to West Indies, he said, ''He is a fantastic player and he can fight his way back.'' On Kumble, Viswanath said, ''He is a world class spinner and he will always prove to be vital. He should be in the list of probable in the world Cup squad.'' On the fate of V V S Laxman who has been left out in the cold for quite sometime now, he said, ''I am not too sure about about him.'' The ODI side is performing brilliantly and there is a lot of bench strength, Vishy added.
