Punjab, MP enter junior women~~s quarter finals

Anantapur:Punjab and Madhya Pradesh entered quarter finals of the Junior National Women's Cricket Championship for Rajiv Gandhi Trophy here today.

Punjab trounced Jharkand by a handsome margin of 118 runs, while Madhya Pradesh defeated Mumbai by 27 runs.

Winning the toss, Punjab opted to bat and made a formidable 248 for four in 40 overs. Davinder stole the show with her unbeaten 74 off 70 balls. Snehalata (62) and Roopdepti(54) further helped to pile up.

Later, Jharkand were all out for a mean 130 runs in just 32.5 overs. Only Nisha (37) could strike form with the bat. Ravneet took three wickets for 27 runs and Davinder grabbed three for six runs.

In another encounter Madhya Pradesh, electing to bat first, made 165 for three in 40 overs.

Rithika (62 n.o. off 102 balls), Ruchita (61 off 65 balls) and Geetha(31 off 56 balls) were the chief scorers for Madhya Pradesh.

Later, they restricted Mumbai for 138/9 in 40 overs. For the Mumbai team Apoorva made 63 off 106 balls, while Varsha scored 24 off 51 balls.

Among MP bowlers, Geetha (3/20) and Ruchita (2/30) excelled.

Brief Scores: Punjab 248/4 in 40 overs (Davinder 74 n.o., Snehalata 62, Roopdeepti Kaur 54) beat Jharkand 130 all out in 32.5 overs. (Nisha 35, Ravneet 3/27, Davinder 3/6).

Madhya Pradesh 165/3 in 40 overs (Rithika 63 n.o.,Ruchika 61, Geetha 31) beat Mumbai 138/9 in 40 overs (Apoorva 63, Varsha 24, Geetha 3/20, Ruchita 2/30).
