''It is good news that the decision to undergo surgery was the right one. However, we will not consider Jacques for selection for the Sri Lanka tour because we will abide by whatever time is needed for full healing to take place,'' Haroon Lorgat, convenor of the national selection panel said today.
''We want him fully fit to meet the challenges of a tough season ahead that includes the Champions Trophy in India and ends with the World Cup in the West Indies in March next year,'' he added.
The tour which starts from July 19 to August 30 will fall between his full healing period which is likely to take some 10-12 weeks.
''The degenerative tissue was debrided and the tendon sutured back onto the bone. Jacques ligament, which showed some degeneration, was also attended to. His left arm will be immobile for three weeks and then he will commence with rehabilitation. Full healing should take about 10-12 weeks,'' Shuaib Manjra, chairperson of Cricket South Africa's medical committee, said.
