Rhodes, Kirsten in Protea committee for WC

Johannesburg:Former stars Jonty Rhodes and Gary Kirsten will be part of a high-powered South African cricket committee to ensure that the Proteas get the best possible preparation for next year's World Cup.

Chief Executive of the cricket board Gerald Majola announced the committee which also comprises national coach Mickey Arthur (Chairperson), assistant coach Vincent Barnes, captain Graeme Smith, chief selector Haroon Lorgat, board's High Performance Manager Vince van der Bijl, former assistant coach Corrie van Zyl, media specialist Aslam Khota and Majola himself.

Spelling out details about the committee, Mr Majola said, ''Committee members were chosen for their experience in different fields of expertise. The committee will meet regularly to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are involved in this preparation programme for the World Cup including coaches, ground staff and administrators.

''We will leave no stone unturned in providing the team with the best possible preparations for the World Cup,'' he asserted.

A board release also informed that the 14-man Test squad scheduled to tour Sri Lanka will assemble at the High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria for a three-day training camp from July 15 -18.

The tour, which starts next month, includes a two-Test series against Sri Lanka and an ODI-triangular series involving South Africa, India and Sri Lanka.
