Chennai:Besides spending time with his five-month-old son, who was operated upon two weeks ago, Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan said he was also preparing for the tri-series against India and South Africa at home and was confident of his team winning the trophy.

The off-spinner has been enjoying his stay at his in-laws' place here in total privacy. But has made a quite a few public appearances as well, the most recent being flagging off a heritage car rally today.

But despite his forced break from cricket, when he had to rush here midway thorugh the tour of England, Murali said he was mentally preparing for the tri-Series which Sri Lanka is to host from August 14 to 28.

'' We will win the series and lift the cup,'' the spin wizard, who is the second highest wicket taker in Tests behind legendary Aussie leggie Shane Warne, said.

''We have performed well in England and I am looking forward to the tri-Series,'' the wily bowler asserted.

Murali also hoped that Sachin Tendulkar would be able to make a come back into the Indian team for the series.

Asked if he thought that Sachin would be able to get back into the team, Murali said, ''Definitely. He is a big player. He knows how to make a come back.'' He said Sri Lanka would be having the advantage of playing at home.

''We will play well and we will win,'' he said.

He said having performed well in England, Sri Lanka would be performing even better in home conditions
