New Delhi:Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Mongia made a comeback while despite his exploits in the recent Test series against the West Indies, Anil Kumble missed the bus as the selectors today named a 15-member squad for the Sri Lanka tri series next month.

A successful county stint earned Mongia the nod while Tendulkar returns after shoulder surgery.

Among others, left arm seamer RP Singh got the nod while batting duo of Robin Uthappa and Y Venugopal Rao failed to make it to the August 10 Colombo-bound flight.

Chairman of Selectors Kiran More, while clarifying the stand on Tendulkar's fitness, said: ''Tendulkar who has been declared fit after undergoing a shoulder operation in London recently, had played five matches in England and also bowled a few overs in these matches.'' ''This shows that he is fit. The Indian physio John Gloster has also been practising with Sachin everyday and we will also see him at the camp. Therefore, we did not think a fitness test was required for him,'' he added.

Speaking on the inclusion of Dinesh Mongia, More said Mongia has been performing well in the last couple of seasons and therefore, they thought there was need to give him a chance.

''Mongia is also a left-arm spinner and this will add a variety to our attack,'' he added.

Meanwhile, former captain Sourav Ganguly's poor show for Northamptonshire saw him left out of the squad. Zaheer Khan, despite his moderate success for Worcestershire, could not make it to the side either.

Despite rumours about his possible exclusion, off-colour Irfan Pathan found a place in the side.

The tournament will be held from August 14 to 29 with South Africa being the third team.

The 15-member squad will undergo a fitness camp in Bangalore from July 25 to August one. The team members will undergo another camp, which would be cricket specific, from August six to August 10 also in Bangalore before leaving for Sri Lanka on the same day.

Team: Rahul Dravid (c), V Sehwag, S Tendulkar, Y Singh, Mohmd Kaif, M S Dhoni (wc), Suresh Raina, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth, Harbhajan Singh, Dinesh Mongia, R P Singh, Munaf Patel and Ramesh Powar.
