BRISTOL: England fast bowler Steve Harmison will miss the One-day series starting next week against Pakistan through injury. The England and Wales Cricket Borad said in a statement that Harmison's absence was a ''precautionary measure'' after his sore lower back failed to respond to treatment.

A replacement has not been called up yet but Harmison's absence gives extended opportunities to the likes of Stuart Broad, Sajid Mahmood and veteran Darren Gough.

England's chances of success in the five-match one-day series that begins in Cardiff on Wednesday already appeared slim following their 5-0 defeat to Sri Lanka in June.

The news on Harmison was announced after England suffered their eighth straight limited-overs defeat with a five-wicket loss to Pakistan in a Twenty20 international at Bristol.
