Punjab Club, Mumbai win in J P Atray tourney

Chandigarh: Punjab Cricket Club defeated Canara Bank of Bangalore by 38 runs in a rain-marred while Mumbai beat Rajasthan by three runs in the 13th Prize Money J P Atray All India Cricket Tournament being played here.

The third match between PCA Colts and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association was abandoned due to wet conditions on account of over night rain.

Punjab Cricket Club posted a facile win by 38 runs against Canara Bank-Bangalore and in the process got five points including a bonus.

Canara Bank tasted their second successive defeat and made exit from the tournament.

Winning the toss, Canara Bank opted to field and were soon rewarded with the wicket of Ravneet Ricky without any score on the board when he flashed at a wide delivery of Mansoor Ali Khan and was snapped by wicket-keeper Shira Juppi.

PCC kept on losing wickets at regular intervals before skipper Reetinder Singh Sodhi with a strokeful (52 , 4x4s) and Garuav Gupta (56) were associated in a stand of 70 runs for the third wicket.

Reetinder Sodhi was caught at long on of a lofted drive by Raja Shekhar of the bowling of Srinivas Murthy. All-rounder Bipul Sharma remained not out 28.

PCC made 209 for 9 of 50 overs. Mansoor Ali Khan (3 for 42) and Chetan Williams (2 for 39) were the most successful bowler for Canara Bank.

Chasing a target of 210 in 50 overs, Canara Bank's innings folded at 120 runs in 31.2 overs.

The match was stopped due to rain resulting in loss of 15 overs game. Revised target of 159 runs in 35 overs was set for Canara Bank as per Duck Worth Lewis rule. G.Balaji (24) and K.B. Pawan (26) were the main scorers for Canara Bank.

At one stage Canara Bank were comfortably placed at 83 for 3 in 22.4 overs but were eventually bowled out for 120 in 31.2 overs.

Left arm spinner Bipul Sharma (3 for 10) and off spinner Rajesh Sharma (3 for 23) were the most successful bowlers for PCC.

Bipul Sharma was declared Man of the Match.

The match between PCA Colts and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association abandoned due to wet conditions on account of overnight rain.
