India to face Minnows Bangla in WC inaugural

Port of Spain (T&T): India will start their World Cup (WC) campaign against minnows Bangladesh in a Group B match on Mar 17 here after hosts West Indies take on Pakistan in the tournament opener in Kingston, Jamaica on Mar 13.

The Men in Blue seem to have easy in their next tie as well when they take on debutant Bermuda on March 19. Team India will have their first real test when they face sub-continent rivals Sri Lanka in their last group stage match on Mar 23.

Before the tournament, India play warm up matches against Holland on March 6 before taking on the hosts in another practice tie on Mar 9 at Trelawny in Jamaica.

Meanwhile, World Champions Australia, begin their title defence against Scotland on Mar 14 in St Kitts. Austalia are pitted alongside South Africa in the Group A. The Proteas begin their campaign on Mar 16 against Holland.

The mouthwatering South Africa-Australia face off will be on Mar 24.

Eight team out of the total 16 in the fray will qualify for next stage, Super Eight, that begins on Mar 27.
