The ICC ranking system, which received flak from West Indies' World Cup winning captain Clive Lloyd, meant the defending champions had to go through the qualifiers and Brian Lara's men chose Zimbabwe to vent their ire at the humiliation, inflicting a nine-wicket defeat on the African nation in the process. Bangladesh would hardly prove a roadblock for Lara's lads.
The Jerome Taylor-Dwayne Smith-Chris Gayle troika shared the spoils and skittled out Zimbabwe for a meagre 85 in the match and then Gayle smashed a 34-ball 41 for a swift end to their opponents' misery and cantered to a nine-wicket win.
The only grievance Lara could have in the match was that the batsmen didn't get enough practice and they might pick Bangladesh for that when they take to the field tomorrow.
Bangla Tigers, on the other hand, are still learning the ropes and despite their occasional upset wins, they are yet to be a force to reckon with.
The minnows would be banking on their batsmen again to ensure that they don't get humiliated by the rampaging Windies. Despite the 37-run defeat against Sri Lanka in Mohali, the Bangla batsmen made their mark, scoring 265 for nine - their highest score against the Lankans.
Their half-centurion in the match, Saqibul Hassan, would be eager to do an encore but Shahryar Nafees, Mohd Ashraful and captain Habibul Basher, who got a duck in Mohali, need to strike form.
West Indies, on the other hand, would like to bulldoze their rivals displaying all-round superiority and it would increase their confidence before they meet Sri Lanka in the October 14 tie in Mumbai.
