West Indies to bat against Australia

Mumbai:West Indian captain Brian Lara won the toss and elected to bat against Australia in their Champions Trophy group A match at the Brabourne stadium here today.

Both teams are playing their first match in the main tournament here on Wednesday. England and hosts India are the other two teams in the group where the top two will qualify for the semi-finals.

The West Indies were hit by the absence of seasoned batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul who suffered an attack of food poisoning on Tuesday.

Paceman Corey Collymore will also miss out, having returned to the Caribbean to be with his wife ahead of the birth of their first child. He will be back for the remaining two league matches.

West Indies were 10/1 in 4 overs with Gayle (6) and Dwayne Smith (0) at the crease
