Mohali:South African captain Graeme Smith has won the toss and decided to bat against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy day-night international here.

Proteas slump to 42/5 on Mohali green top: South Africa slumped to 42/5 off 13 overs in their must-win Champions Trophy Group 'B' tie against Pakistan in Mohali.

Captain Graeme Smith was the first to go trapped infront to paceman Umar Gul with the second ball.

Herschelle Gibbs followed two balls later, caught by Shoaib Malik at first slip on a green top. Boeta Dippenaar and Jacques Kallis survived some close calls before Dippenaar fell for 13. The right-hander was caught one-handed by the diving wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal off Iftikhar Anjum in the 10th over.

As though this was not enough Pak pacemen picked two more wickets to leave Proteas reeling on 42/5.

Iftikhar Anjum induced Kallis (17) to nick the ball only to be caught by gloveman Kamran Akmal.

Yaser Arafat produced a gem of a outswinger to dismiss A B de Villiers, who nicked a away going delivery to give a regulation catch to Kamran Akmal.

Mark Boucher (3) and Justin Kemp (0) were at the crease trying to dole out Proteas out of trouble
