Guwahati:In the wake of last night's blast, former India captain Sourav Ganguly was given special security covers, while it needed much coaxing and cajoling to convince the players to continue with the ongoing Duleep Trophy match after three North Zone players had a close shave with the explosion.

The North Zone trio of VRV Singh, Ranveet Singh Ricky and Gagandeep Singh were on a shopping spree at the Fancy Bazar area when the huge explosion went off. Local friends, who were with them, immediately took the cricketers to a nearby Gurudwara. There they remained trapped for more than an hour as people fled from the scene. Later they were safely escorted out of the Gurudwara and reached the team hotel.

The traumatized players today refused to take field but later they agreed to carry on after the organisers assured full security for players.

The East Zone vs North Zone Duleep trophy match began after 45 minutes delay because of frisking of whole stadium and the ground.

Meanwhile, authorities have provided extra security cover to Ganguly and some other players.

Most of the gates at the Nehru Stadium have been closed for spectators as a precautionary measure.

The players, match officials, organisers and the spectators observed one minute silence to mourn the deaths of 13 civilians who lost their lives in last night's blasts.
