DHAKA, Nov 14: Senior government official Mohammad Abdul Aziz was appointed president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today after Ali Asghar quit the post.

Aziz will take up charges of BCB as soon as possible, a senior sports ministry official said.

Asghar, who had held the job since 2001, said he had resigned following a disagreement with the authorities.

''I have resigned as the ministry was delaying signing a deal with (communications and marketing company) Nimbus that won a tender for a cricket marketing deal,'' he told Reuters.

Singapore-based Nimbus Communications Limited last week won a BCB tender to sell marketing rights for six years until 2012.

The 56.88 million dollar deal is yet to be signed, the sports ministry official said.
