According to an Australian Associated Press report, in an annual poll conducted by the magazine, Hair got a third of the votes, with one of the readers describing the Aussie ''as the only one with courage''.
Hair, who was sacked following the infamous Oval Test fiasco, was also praised for ''exposing cheats'' and ''ensuring that the umpires' decision is final''.
The man on his part was surprised by the outcome of the poll but admitted that the survey was a boost to his confidence.
''I suppose it is a bit of a shock,'' Hair told Wisden.
''But if free-thinking people want to vote that way and they do believe I've done the job as well as anybody or even better I can accept that fact its a great vote of confidence.
