Kingston:West Indies opener Chris Gayle beat Jerome Taylor to win his third successive Jamaican Cricketer-of-the-Year award.

With the 27-year-old currently on duty in Pakistan, his father Dudley Gayle was handed over the award, along with $1,538 and the KFC Trophy in the ceremony held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston yesterday, according to a CMC report.

Gayle had a brilliant calendar year and the the left-handed batsman, who sits on top of the International Cricket Council's all-rounder rankings, scored over 800 runs this season.

There was some consolation for Taylor, who was named Jamaica's Young West Indies Cricketer-of-the-Year while former West Indies off-spinner Gareth Breese collected the Laurie Williams award for the Most Disciplined Jamaica Senior Team Player.
