Punjab, Baroda and Delhi in Twenty-20 semis

Chandigarh:Punjab, Delhi and Baroda moved into the semi-finals of the first National Under-19 Twenty-20 Cricket Championship under way here with easy triumphs over their rivals yesterday.

Punjab will meet Chandigarh and Baroda are pitted against Delhi in semi-finals to be played at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

A balanced Baroda accounted for Himachal Pradesh by nine wickets and Punjab defeated Maharashtra by eight wickets. In the third quarter-final encounter, Delhi humbled Haryana by eight wickets. Chandigarh had qualified for semi-finals at the expense of Jammu and Kashmir.

After winning the toss Punjab put in Maharashtra to bat.

Maharashtra were bowled out for 87 runs in 17.5 overs. Six of their batsmen returned to the pavilion without scoring any runs. Imran Pathan (22), Yuvraj Pawar (22 not out) and H Pawar (18) contributed to the total. Vishavjit (3 for 20), Sukhdev (2 for 6) and Kunal Sahde (2 for 22) accounted for Maharashtra's cheap dismissal.

Punjab easily achieved the target in just 10.2 over by losing just two wickets. Opener Kunal Sahdev (34, 5x4s) and Vipandeep (28, 4x4s) were the lead scorers.

In the second quarter-final Delhi won the toss and elected to field against Haryana who made 175 for 5. Tinku's brilliant century (107, 9x4s, 6x6s, 65 balls) went in vain as Delhi recorded easy eight-wicket win.

For Delhi openers Navneet (63, 8x4s) and Gaurav (65, 6x4s, 1x6) build a 139-run partnership to put their stamp on the match.
