Vidarbha boys overpower Goa by ten wickets

Margao:Inspired bowling spells by left-arm spinner Madhusudan Acarya (4 for 52) and medium-pacer Sandeep Singh (3 for 64) enabled Vidarbha to register an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Goa on the last day of the four-day Ranji Plate match played here at MCC ground today.

Out of two matches, Vidarbha collected seven points. This is the second humiliating defeat for hosts Goa. Earlier they lost to Assam.

Goa, chasing the 130 runs first innings deficit, resumed at the overnight score of 87 for four and fell to the guile of Madhusudhan Acharya and Sandeep Singh and could only manage to score 156 in 59.3 overs.

Except captain Swapnil Asnodkar (59) and Rohit Asnodkar (48), no other batsman made any significant contribution for the hosts.

Vidarbha chasing the target of 27 runs to win, achieved it in 5.5 overs with Amit Despdhande (12) and Faiz Fazal (15), without losing a wicket 15 minutes before lunch to win bonus points as well.

Scores in brief: First innings: Goa: 306 Vidarbha: 436 Second innings: Goa : 156 all out in 59.3 overs (Swapnil Asnodkar 59, Rohit Asnodkar 48; Madhusudan Acharya 4 for 52, Sandeep Singh 3 for 64).

Vidarbha: 27 for no loss in 5.5 overs (Amit Deshpade not out 12, Faiz Fazal not out 15).
