Pak lands WC 2011 secretarial headquarters

Lahore:Pakistan will house the Secretarial Headquarters of the 2011 World Cup and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Nasim Ashraf has been appointed convenor for the cricketing extravaganza.

According to a PCB release, Pakistan was the unanimous choice for the Secretarial Headquarter during the meeting of the organising committee at BCCI President Sharad Pawar's New Delhi residence on Dec 11.

Dr Nasim Ashraf has been appointed as convener for the World Cup, whereas Mr Pawar would be the Chairman of Central Organising Committee, the release read.

The first meeting of Central Organising Committee will be held in Murree from May 18 to 20, it added.

Mr Ashraf, in his statement, said, ''We are thankful to the host nations for their confidence in choosing Pakistan to be the headquarters for Secretariat for the World Cup 2011.

''We will put up a world-class high performance team, plan and design the best-ever spectator-friendly World Cup to date,'' he promised.

''Not only will this be a big boost for tourism in all of South Asia but will also give Pakistan an opportunity to share with the World its rich culture and heritage,'' he added.
