Sydney:After stamping their class and wresting the Ashes from arch-rivals England, Ricky Ponting's men would now adorn the envelops as Australia Post plans to release two new stamps on January 16 next year with victorious images of the Australian cricket team.

Thanks to a popular decision by Australia Post and Cricket Australia to celebrate the series victory, a 50 cent domestic stamp will feature a shot taken during play, while a 1.85 dollar international stamp will show the Australian team celebrating as it receives the hallowed trophy.

Australia Post will work furiously over the few weeks to design the stamps and deliver them to Australia Post outlets around the country, where demand for the stamps is expected to be huge.

''Cricket Australia is thrilled to announce this historic initiative by Australia Post to celebrate the Australian cricket teams series win on a special stamp issue,'' said James Sutherland, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Australia.

''We expect that the demand for these cricket stamps will be massive,'' stated Australia Post Group Manager Philatelic, Noel Leahy.

''This summer has captured the imagination of the nation, and Australia Post is delighted to be celebrating this series victory in such a unique way so soon after the event,'' he said.

This stamp issue is a groundbreaking event for Australia Post and for Cricket Australia. It is the first time that images from a major sporting event outside of an Olympic Games or Commonwealth Games have been featured on a stamp so soon after the event.

The 3 mobile Ashes victory stamps will be available from CBD and selected Australia Post outlets around the country from 16 January.

The range of affordable collectables include a minisheet, stamp pack and first day cover.
