Saurashtra suffered a blow when opener S Jogiani retired hurt after scoring only four runs. He was hit on the wrist in the third over from medium pacer S Badhwar and went back to the pavilion, though the injury was not serious.
Jogiani returned to the pitch after the fall of the fourth wicket in the form of Sitanshu Kotak who made 39 (112 balls, 162 minutes, 5x4s). He, however, did not last long and fell to right-arm spinner Amit Mishra after adding five more runs to his indiviual score.
The hosts were in a precarious position as none of their batsmen, barring S Kotak, put up any resistance.
Left-hander Ravindra Jadeja hit four fours in last over of the day, punishing right-arm off-spinner Amit Mishra. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 20 when stumps were drawn for the day. Firoz Bambhania, on 19, was the other batsman at the crease.
Earlier, the visitors folded their first innings after adding 70 runs to their overnight score of 238 for seven. Sandeep Singh completed his half century and was out for 58 after edging to wicket keeper off the bowling of medium-pacer S Maniar. He faced 140 balls and his innings was studded with seven fours.
Amit Mishra was the top scorer with 84 runs (172 balls, 1x6, 8x4s).
Spinner Rakesh Dhruve scalped five wickets for 88, while medium-pacer S Maniar took two wickets for 60. S Jobanputra, R Jadeja and K Makwana shared one wicket each.
