Lahore:India's refusal to confirm participation in the 2008 Asia Cup due to their proposed tour of Australia in that year may once again lead to a postponement of the regional event from its scheduled start of April 17.

According to a report in The Dawn quoting Pakistan Cricket Board Director of Cricket Operations Salim Altaf, the Indians are waiting for the finalisation of their tour Down Under in Jan-Feb 2008 before committing themselves to the continental championship to be held here.

The delay may move the tournament from April to first week of May as Pakistan will be hosting Australia until April 25, making it impossible for them to accommodate the event in between.

A meeting of the Asian Cricket Council was held in Singapore last month and according to Altaf, the Indian official at the meeting requested some more time before confirming participation.

''The Indian official requested to wait for the confirmation (for 2008 Asia Cup) due to the Indian team's tour to Australia, before any final decision over staging the Asia Cup was taken,'' Altaf told the newspaper.

''If India confirms participation Asia Cup can be held in the first week of May, 2008,'' he added.

Pakistan will also host the ICC Champions Trophy in the same year.
