Skipper Yere Goud helps Karnataka pile up 570

Rajkot:Karanataka captain Yere Goud smashed unbeaten 171 and his record last wicket partnership of 112 runs with Udit Patel (35) helped the visitors pile up 570 runs in their first innings on second day of the four-day Super League encounter against Saurashtra here today.

At the end of the day's play, Saurashtra were 103 for no loss as their openers - Kanaya Vaghela and Sagar Jogiyani - were batting with 32 and 62 runs respectively.

Both the batsmen played some charaterstic strokes without separating. Sagar Jogiyani was aggressive than his partner and smashed ten fours and one mighty six in his unbeaten knock of 62 off 56 balls.

Karanataka last wicket pair - captain Yere Goud and Udit Patel raised their total from 458 for nine to healthy 570 for all out, and added 112 runs for the last wicket.

Saurashtra's sloppy fielding and grassed dozen catches helped the visitors amass 570.

Saurashtra missed the services of ace spinner Rakesh Dhruve who had played crucial role in previous two Ranji matches, which the hosts won comprehensively.

Yesterday, Rakesh Dhruve had developed a crack in his little finger while trying to hold the catch of C Raghu in second slip off medium pacer Sandip Jobanputra's bowling.

Earlier, the visitors started their innings at the overnight score of 329 for 4 and were all out after piling up 570 in 156.5 overs.

Yere Goud, who resumed innings at the overnight score of 38, continued to fetch runs at will and completed his first ton this season and remained not out on 171.

His innings were studded with twenty boundaries and one six.

Raju Bhatkal chipped in with 42 runs, in which he smashed three fours and two sixes.

Dravid turns 35:Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid today celebrated his 35th birthday alongwith mediapersons and Ranji players at the Madhavrao Stadium here during the lunch break.

Dravid cut the cake in the presence journalists from electronic, local and print media. Players from both the Ranji teams and BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah also participated in the celebrations.
