At the IIT Chemplast ground, the Aussie eves, chasing a target of 216 in 50 overs, lost just four wickets while scoring 217, thanks to an unbeaten 85 off 84 balls by Lisa Sthaleker and her 67 run stand for the second wicket with opener Melissa Pulow. While Lisa compiled her score with the help of 12 fours, to register her third consecutive half century, Mellissa scored a fine 55 off 72 balls with the help of ten fours. Karen Rolton chipped in with 35 off 38 balls, hitting seven fours.
For England off-spinner Laura Newton claimed two wickets for 34 runs.
Earlier, the England eves opting make first use of the wicket on winning the toss, could score only 216 losing seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. No 3 batswoman Clair Taylor's aggressive, unbeaten 113 off 115 balls with the help of ten fours and a six went in vain, as it turned out.
Lydya Greenway made 27 off 30 balls with six fours. Clair and Lydia added 54 runs off 57 balls in a partnership for the sixth wicket. Medium pacers Clea Smith (2-60) and K Pike (2-35) were the most successful bowlers for the victorious Aussies.
While Australia opened their points tally with five, including a bonus point, England are yet to win a match in the first league phase.
