Karachi:Former vice-captain Younis Khan does not want to become a powerless skipper as he is willing to become Pakistan's captain but only if he is given the full authority in team selection matters with the new coach working under his guidance.

Younis is ready to replace Inzamam-ul-Haq but he wants the same powers and authority which Inzamam enjoyed during his captaincy tenure.

According to reports, PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, wanted to announce Younis Khan's name as captain in his press conference held few days ago in Lahore but Younis requested at the eleventh hour that he does not want to be a skipper without any powers, a PCB official was said to have told PPI on condition of anonymity.

The official said that in an unexpected meeting of Dr Ashraf with former captain Imran Khan in Islamabad, he (Imran) had asked the PCB chief to make Younis the future captain and the PCB chairman had also agreed on that.

But in the meantime, Dr Ashraf had reportedly telephoned Younis, asking him to accept the responsibilities as the captain but he simply refused.

According to the PCB chairman, Younis allegedly wants the full authority in team selection and also wanted the new coach (yet to be announced) to work under his guidance, the PCB official disclosed.

The PCB chairman reportedly made it clear to Younis that these demands were unacceptable, the official revealed.

The PCB chairman is in Cape Town to attend the funeral of late coach Bob Woolmer, and will reach Islamabad on today to attend the valima reception of Younis to be held in his hometown (Mardan).

According to the official, the final verdict on this sticky issue will be taken in a couple of days time.
