Tsunami-hit Galle gears up for England Test

Colombo:Galle International Stadium, which was destroyed in the Asian tsunami in 2004, will be officially reopened when England visit Sri Lanka in December for a three-Test tour.

''Galle will be ready in time to stage the first Test against England,'' Sri Lanka Cricket secretary K Mathivanan told.

The first Test will be played from December. 1-5.

The redevelopment of the stadium, flanked by a 400-year-old Dutch fort and the Indian Ocean, will include a pavilion with extra seating and corporate boxes, dressing rooms and a modern media centre.

The tour has been spilt into two legs with a five-match one-day international series in October followed by a six-week break and then the Tests in December.


One-dayers: Oct 1: First ODI, Dambulla (day/night); Oct 4: Second ODI, Dambulla (d/n); Oct 7: Third ODI, Dambulla (d/n); Oct 10: Fourth ODI, Colombo (d/n); Oct 13: Fifth ODI, Colombo (d/n).

Tests: Dec 1-5: First Test, Galle; Dec 9-13: Second Test, Colombo; Dec 18-22: Third Test, Kandy.
