New Zealand elect to bat against Ireland

Georgetown (Guyana):New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming elected to bat after winning the toss against debutants Ireland in a World Cup Super Eights match at the Providence Stadium here on Monday.

New Zealand, seeking a win to bolster their hopes of a semi-final berth, make one change from the team that beat Bangladesh, drafting in off-spinner Jeetan Patel for injured seam bowler Michael Mason.

Ireland make two changes, bringing in batsman Peter Gillespie for the injured Andre Botha and all-rounder Kevin O'Brien for Paul Mooney.

New Zealand are unbeaten in the tournament with six points from three matches, while Ireland have yet to open their account after three games.


New Zealand: Stephen Fleming (capt), Shane Bond, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Brendon McCullum (wk), Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Daniel Vettori and Hamish Marshall. Coach: John Bracewell.

Ireland: Trent Johnston (capt), Kyle McCallan, Jeremy Bray, Peter Gillespie, Dave Langford-Smith, Eoin Morgan, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien (wk), William Porterfield, Boyd Rankin, Andrew White. Coach: Andrew Birrell.

Umpires: Steve Bucknor (WI), Simon Taufel (Aus) and Third umpire: Billy Doctrove (WI).
