Afridi and pacer Umar Gul recorded their statements before a World Cup probe committee yesterday where both said they would support Malik.
''Malik is the right choice. He is very talented and young. We will support him,'' the duo added.
Afridi revealed that it was the wish of many seniors including him to captain the Pakistan side but added ''the decision rests with the PCB. And they appointed Malik as new skipper. There are no hard feelings.''
Afridi also said the vice-captaincy should be given to a senior player who could help Malik. ''I am ready to assist him during the matches as his deputy,'' he told Daily Times.
Both the players held the entire team responsible for the dismal show in the World Cup.
''We failed to perform. It was a bad day for Pakistan against Ireland, they said. ''There is a need to improve our domestic cricket.'' Both also took a dig at former cricketers for criticising the team instead of working in the academies to groom young players.
