According to The News, the Pakistani officials have recommended Shoaib's name as one of the five national cricketers to be up for selection in the Asian team for the next month's Cup to be played in Bangalore and Chennai from June 6-10.
Among other Pakistani players who are in the run to make it in the Asian all-star team, in the second edition of the Afro-Asian Cup, includes newly-appointed captain Shoaib Malik, batting maestro Mohammad Yousuf, flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq.
Apart from them, medium pacer Mohammad Asif, who was a last moment exclusion from Pakistan's Caribbean World Cup squad in fear of positive dope tests, might also be considered.
The News quoted sources as saying that former Pakistan Test opener and a member of the Asian team selection committee Mohsin Khan would push for the case of the Pakistani stars when the four wise men comprising of he himself, ASM Fauque from Bangladesh, Chetan Chauhan from India and Lalith Kaluperuma from Sri Lanka meet in Dhaka later this week to finalise the Asian squad.
Apart from the 'Rawalpindi Express', several top cricketers from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would turn up to represent the Asia team against an all-star African team comprising of players from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya.
