Former Aussie all-rounder Archer passes away

Sydney:Ron Archer, who played 19 Tests for Australia before a knee injury ended his career prematurely at the age of 23, died on Sunday from lung cancer aged 73. An all-rounder, Archer played in three Ashes series, 1953, 1954-55 and 1956, when Australia lost all three.

During a 1955 tour of the West Indies, Brisbane-born Archer scored his only century - 128 in the final Test.

He scored 713 runs in Tests at an average of 24.58 and took 48 wickets at 27.45, with best figures of 5-53.
