Maddhalkar group sweeps MCA polls; Pawar re-elected

Mumbai:The Bal Maddhalkar group, led by Sharad Pawar, once again swept the polls at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections here on Wednesday, winning all the 17 seats on offer.

The results of the elections, held this afternoon, were declared late tonight.

Pawar, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), had already been elected as the President of the MCA for the third term in succession unopposed.

The other major winners included chairman of the national selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar, re-elected to the post of the Vice President from the Maddhalkar group.

Pravin Barve, who himself had stood for the post of joint secretary from his group, had to bite the dust as P V Shetty and Hemant Waingankar were elected as the joint secretaries.

The Chief Administrative Officer of the BCCI Prof Ratnakar Shetty was relected as the Treasurer from the Maddhalkar group.

The new committee:

President: Sharad Pawar; Vice Presidents: Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Sawant; Joint Secretaries: P V Shetty and Hemant Waingankar; Treasurer: Prof Ratnakar Shetty;

Working Committee Members: Lalchand Rajput, Milind Rege, Sanjay Patil, Javed Rizvi, Pankaj Thakur, Avi Sule, Ramesh Vazge, Vinod Deshpande, Nitin Dalal, Deepak Murkar and Madhu Patwardhan.
