Play, which had been completely washed out without a ball being bowled on Friday's first day, had been due to get under way at 11am local time (1000GMT).
The umpires were due to hold a further inspection at midday local time.
Heavy rain throughout Friday had made play impossible but with conditions dry on Saturday morning there were hopes that the match would get underway later in the day.
England have already won the series, going 2-0 up with one to play after their 60-run win in the third Test at Old Trafford completed Monday. Earlier England thrashed the tourists by an innings and 283 runs in the second Test at Headingley while the first Test at Lord's ended in draw.
