England Lions opt to bat against India

Chelmsford:England A captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to bat first on a batsman-friendly strip Chelmsford today.

England Lions have a strong batting line-up, a middle order that includes internationals Owais Shah, Ravinder Bopara and Jonathan Trott. Adil Rashid, the Yorkshire leg-spinner of Pakistani origin slated to bat deep down has four first-class fifties to his credit, a clear indication of the batting strength of the England Lions.

In bowling department Lions look pretty solid. England ODI player Stuart Broad will spearhead pace attack which also boosts Tremlett and Onions in its ranks while the promising leg-spinner Adil Rashid add depth and variety.

The tourists, led by Tendulkar, picked Ishant Sharma lanky pacer from Delhi for this four-day tie ahead of first Test encounter. At the moment, though, RP Singh, the left-arm seamer rested for this game. However RP is likely to get nod ahead of Sharma for Lord's encounter starting on July 19.


India: Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik, Sachin Tendulkar (capt), VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, M S Dhoni (wk), Ramesh Powar, Zaheer Khan, Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma.

England Lions: Andrew Strauss (capt), Joe Denly, Owais Shah, Jonathan Trott, Ravinder Bopara, Tim Ambrose (wk), Tim Bresnan, Adil Rashid, Chris Tremlett, Stuart Broad and Graham Onions.
