London:Seamer Nicki Shaw has been recalled to the England eve's squad for the forthcoming series against New Zealand.

The 25-year-old has also been named vice-captain following Laura Newton's retirement from international cricket.

Apart from Newton, the only player left out of the squad which played in a quadrangular series in India earlier this year is Ebony Rainford-Brent.

England have, meanwhile, named ex-Kent, Leicestershire and Durham all-rounder Vince Wells as assistant coach.

He will work alongside new head coach Mark Dobson and said: "I'm really looking forward to joining the women's set-up.

"I've been really impressed by the standard of the Super 4s (domestic competition) this year.

"I'm looking forward to working with that ability and improving the players even further, looking ahead to the forthcoming Ashes series and the World Cup in 2009."

Completing a new-look backroom team will be Jane Morris, who has been appointed team manager after filling the role on two winter tours in the past.

England will play three Twenty20 internationals and six 50-over matches against New Zealand between 12 and 30 August.

The series represents the chance for a fresh start after a disappointing time in India where, although they finished third, they only one game in the entire tournament.

Despite that, skipper Charlotte Edwards is upbeat about the future.

"Although it was a disappointing tour, I have a lot of faith that we'll be able to turn things around this summer against a very strong New Zealand side.

"It's a really exciting time for the players, having a whole new invigorated management team with plenty of enthusiasm and new ideas. We can't wait for it to get started," she said.

The one notable absentee from the England squad is new ball bowler Katherine Brunt, who is still recuperating from a back problem.

Squad: Charlotte Edwards (capt), Lynsey Askew, Caroline Atkins, Holly Colvin, Lydia Greenway, Isa Guha, Jennifer Gunn, Laura Marsh, Beth Morgan, Nicki Shaw, Jane Smit, Claire Taylor and Sarah Taylor.
