Bangalore:Overnight rain resulting in wet ground conditions delayed the scheduled 11:00am local time (1000GMT) start of the first day of the second Test between England and India at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Although the ground was bathed in sunshine, with blue skies overhead, several days of persistent rain meant the outfield was still too wet in the opinion of umpires Simon Taufel and Ian Howell for play to start on time.

An England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) spokesman said the umpires would hold inspections every 30 minutes from 11:00am.

The three-match series is level at 0-0 after the first Test at Lord's was drawn on Monday.
