Dhoni named India captain for Twenty20 World Cup

Mumbai: India wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni named as captain of India squad for the Twenty20 World Cup scheduled to be held in South Africa next month, BCCI announced here today.
Batting all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will be deputy to Dhoni.

The squad for both the Twenty20 World Cup, which will be held from Sept 11-28, and the seven-match One Day series against England was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Niranjan Shah.

Test and ODI team discards Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan were also named in the 15-member team for the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.

Irfan's elder brother and Baroda all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who can be a handy lower order batsman plus he can bowl off-spinnersr, has also made it to the Twenty20 World Cup squad.

India Test regular Sreesanth made it to Twenty20 squad but failed to find a spot in England-bound ODI squad.

India big guns Dravid, Tendulkar and Ganguly earlier informed selectors that they did not want to be part of squad for the World Cup of the nascent version of the sport as they believe it is youngsters' event and want to make room for promising players waiting in the wings. Team India pace spearhead Zaheer Khan has also been rested.

Munaf Patel, who nursed an ankle injury is back in the squad with Ajit Agarkar for England one-dayers.
