Buchi Babu tourney: AIS, TNCA record easy wins

Chennai: Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) and TNCA XI scored outright wins and secured eight points in their opening league matches on the third and final day of the All India Invitation Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament here on Saturday.

While the young team defeated Punjab by 93 runs, thanks to a five-wicket-hall by medium pacer Ryan Harris. TNCA, after a shoddy display in the first innings, raised their game to score a comfortable seven wicket win over Assam.

Chasing a daunting target of 257 in 45 overs, the Punjab batsmen were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 163 in 35.2 overs.

Only Sunny Sohail offered some resistance, scoring 35. Ryan Harris, generating good pace and bounce, ripped through the innings claiming five wickets. His last four wickets came in 19 balls conceeding just six runs.

In another match, Assam, resuming their second innings at 63 for three, were all out for 134 in 44.1 overs. TNCA, enjoying a first innings lead of 33 runs, knocked off the target in 23.2 overs and finished at 105 for three. Opener M VIjay scored a stroke-filled half century (50, 4x4, 1x6) as the match ended in double quick time.

In other matches, combined district scored an eight wicket win over Kerala and Hyderabad defeated Vidarbha by 95 runs. Districts and Hyderabad collected eight points from the win. In another match Andhra, withstood a mesmerising spell by off spinner Madhur Katri, to post a three wicket win over Rajasthan and collected full points.

After both the teams scored 307 in the first innings, Rajesh Bishnoi scored a strokeful 71 to help Rajasthan scored 183 all put in the second essay.

Andhra batsmen fell to the guiles of Katri, who bagged six wickets, before Gnaneswara Rao saw the team through with an unbeaten 32.

Madhya Pradesh also started their campaign in style winning by 89 runs against Gujarat in another league match.

Assam 235 and 134 in 44.1 overs (Juffre Zachariah 28; C Ganapathy three for 33, R Ashwin four for 23) lost to TNCA XI 268 and 105 for three in 23.2 overs (M Vijay 50).

Australian Institute of Sports 255 and 163 beat Punjab 162 and 163 all out in 35.2 overs (Sunny Sohail 35; Ryan Haris 5 for 33).

Kerala 164 and 184 for nine in 45 overs ((Sebastian Antony 56, Sreekumaran Nair 70, C Suresh 3 for 39) lost to Combined Districts 296 and 53 for two in 9.4 overs.

Hyderabad 256 and 255 for five in 45 overs (T Suman 74, Anup Pai 54; Srikanth Wagh 2 for 76) beat Vidarbha 233 and 184 all out in 43.5 overs (Salaab Srivatsa 35; Vishal Sharma 6 for 52).

Rajasthan 307 and 183 all out in 44.4 overs (Rajesh Bishnoi 71, Robin Bisht 55; V V Bala Saraswathy Reddy 5 for 58, M Suresh 3 for 53) lost to Andhra 307 and 184 for 7 in 43.1 overs (V Sandeep 60, Y Gnaneswara Rao 32 not out; Madhur Katri 6 for 53).

Madhya Pradesh 213 and 221 for six in 45 overs (Jitin Saxena 77, Rahul Bakshi 36, Murtaza Ali 39 n o) beat Gujarat 197 and 148 for eight in 45 overs (Rajesh Tabiar 51 not out).
