England's Andrew Flintoff has been omitted from Wednesday's penultimate match of their NatWest Series against India at the Oval because of an injured ankle.
The 29-year-old all-rounder had a meeting on Tuesday evening with the surgeon who undertook his third left ankle operation and it is not yet clear how long he will be sidelined.
England, who give a debut to Sussex's Luke Wright and also Dimitri Mascarenhas, are due to make a further announcement on Flintoff later on Wednesday.
Flintoff missed Sunday's rain-affected defeat to India at Headingley, which clawed England's NatWest Series advantage back to 3-2, with more discomfort in his ankle.
Having already missed last week's victory at Edgbaston with an unrelated knee niggle, Flintoff jarred his ankle in a foot hole at Old Trafford last Thursday.
