Bangalore: Karnataka eves defeated their Goan counterparts by six wickets in the South Zone Inter-State limited-over Women"s tournament at the R D T Stadium 'B' grounds in Ananthapur on Thursday.
Goa won the toss and decided to bat first. Mamatha made early in-roads sending back the openers in her first four overs. In her second spell, bowling from the far end, Mamatha struck thrice in an over to leave Goa reeling on 47 for 6 in 17 overs. Karnataka eves then on mounted pressure and never allowed Goans to recover before being bowling out them for paltry 94 in 49 overs. Mamatha's analysis read 5 for 24 in 10 overs, leg-spinners Deepika and Vilasini picked two wickets apiece.
In reply, Karnataka lost both the openers Karuna Jain and Hema Malini cheaply. The Goans exhibited excellence in the field having Sindhu Ashok run out and Vilasini out to a superb catch in the covers. From 46 for 4, Mamatha and Deepika played cautiously to see Karnataka home without further loss. Karnataka garnered 5 points ( including the bonus point ) from this game.
Katk-Goa two-day tie called off: In the two-Day tie which ended on Wednesday only 19 overs of play was possible due to poor weather conditions. Put into bat, Karnataka seeking to grab the three points available for the first innings lead, scored 130 for two with Karuna ( 57 from 52 balls, 7x4), Hema Malini ( 26, 32 balls, 3x4) and Sindhu Ashok ( 33 not out, 21 balls 4x4) before the umpires called off play.
