New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led the country in congratulating Team India over their thrilling victory against Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup final in Johannesburg.
Vice-President Hamid Ansari and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also congratulated the team for its spectacular performance.
Lavishing praise on Team India, President Patil said the team played positive cricket and their victory was an inspiration to the youth of the country.
In his message, the Prime Minister said,''Team India played well and made us all proud.'' He also complimented Pakistan team for playing well in the final match.
Ms Gandhi called up captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and congratulated the Indian team for the victory. She also spoke to vice-captain Yuvraj Singh and conveyed her wishes.

Union Minister of Sports Mani Shankar Aiyar also joined the nation in congratulating Indian team.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi also expressed his jubilation over the Indian victory.
Congratulating the Indian team, he said the year has been very fruitful for Indian cricket, football and hockey.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil also congratulated the team for winning the Cup. He praised the team spirit shown by the players throughout the tournament.
Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee in his congratulatory message said ''Our team played in truly great spirit and deserved to win,'' he said.
Delhi Chief Minister congratulated the team for its historic win.
The state BJP president Harshvardhan also conveyed his wishes to the victorious team.
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced a Rs five lakh cash reward each to Team India opener Robin Uthappa for his fine performance and bowling coach B K Venkatesh Prasad for doing a fine job in training the fast bowlers.
''I compliment the bold Indian team that tamed strong teams and came out victorious. I am happy both Robin and Venky did remarkably well and contributed handsomely to the Indian victory,'' Mr Kumaraswamy said in his message.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda congratulated the Indian Cricket Team on victory and announced a cash award of Rs one lakh for Joginder Sharma, who hails from Haryana. He also announced a reward of Rs one lakh for taking four wickets, two each in semi-finals and final of the Twenty-20 World Cup Tournament.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy congratulating the Indian Team said ''Well done, hearty congratulations, keep it up'' the Chief Minister said in a message to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Indian Team.
Bollywood was not far behind in congratulating the young team India. Bollywood's 'king khan' Shahrukh was present at the match venue along with his son. The actor said ''I and my son believed all through the final that we would win.'' Actor Suniel Shetty also expressed elation at the etam's win. He said it was a really exciting tournament that they had witnessed in South Africa this last fortnight.
Congratulating the Indian team on winning the first Twenty20 World Cup, the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao announced Rs 1.16 lakh cash award each to Indian captain and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, paceman Irfan Pathan and southpaw Gautam Gambhir for excelling in the final against Pakistan.
Cricket fans came out on the roads and burst crackers, besides exchanging greetings and distributing sweets. The city roads wore a deserted look during the three hour humdinger burst into celebration minutes after the Team India's thrilling five run victory.
