MS Dhoni with Twenty20 WC TrophyRanchi: Anguish caused by the burning of effigy of their son and the cricket lovers' ire expressed following the Caribbean World Cup debacle is still fresh in the minds of Team India's Twenty20 World Cup winning captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni's parents.

Last night, with hundreds of people going into delirium shouting only ''Dhoni, Dhoni'' in front of their favourite local lad Mahi's house at Mecon Colony here, his ''grief-stricken'' parents -- Pan Singh and Devki Devi -- refused to come out of their residence as they were yet to come to terms with the ''unexpected'' public rage shown on their son's failure in the World Cup in West Indies.

No sooner had Paksitan middle-order batsman Misbah-ul Haq tried in vain to scoop a Joginder Sharma delivery past Sreesanth, who took the catch enabling India to become the first Twenty20 World Champions, literally the whole of Ranchi erupted into joy and took to streets braving the inclement weather.

Photo journalists and electronic media who had been waiting late into last night for a byte from Dhoni's parents were shown a soft corner either.

In sharp contrast to the outside celebrations marked by processions and bursting of fire crackers in Jharkhand, Team India skipper's family members preferred to remain indoors.

After Team India's humiliating exit from the Caribbean World Cup earlier this year and particularly Dhoni's poor performance, people here vandalised his under-constrction ''dream house'' at Harmu Colony, the land for which was a gift from the then Arjun Munda-led NDA government after his outstanding feat with the bat in Pakistan.

People even burnt effigy of Dhoni that triggered a strong emotional reaction from his mother who only said ''people do not know how to enjoy sport with sportsman's spirit''.

Devki Devi had then said the same people who were all praise for her son till the other day did not spare him just for one bad performance.

Dhoni's dream house which was under construction ran into more controversy as residents of the Harmu colony moved court protesting against his plan to have a swimming pool. The residents feared that with deep boring required for the swimming pool, the water level in the area would go further down causing immeasurable woes to them.

Whatsoever the scene at Dhoni's house, people who have ''short memory'' have been bursting crackers to celebrate the win.

Yesterday, Dhoni fans were performing pujas at temples and praying at mosques throughout the day for his success.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda, now in New Delhi, congratulated the state's first India captain on his success saying he not only brought laurels to the country but also to his home state Jharkhand.

Earlier, last month Mr Koda had announced that he will give Dhoni a ''surprise gift'' if his team won the T20 World cup.

Mr Koda said the state government would organise a special state function at historic Morabadi ground here to honour Mahi.
