Sri Lanka have laid long- and short-term plans to prepare for the absence of star spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan from the team, coach Trevor Bayliss said Thursday.
Muralitharan has been forced out of the home series against England which starts next week. He has a sore right shoulder which was aggravated during the English summer when he turned out for Lancashire.
The off spinner is likely to miss out the entire series.
Bayliss said Sri Lanka have picked leg spinner Kasuhal Lokuararchchi and off spinner Dilruwan Perera, both aged 25, in the squad as replacements for Murali.
"This is our plan for the next two to four years. We will give younger spinners the opportunity and hope they will gain from experience."
Lokuarachchi has played four Tests and 19 one day internationals while Perers is still uncapped.
