Bangalore, Sep 28: The Bangalore Urban District Administration under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority will set up an Incident command Post at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, to handle any kind of disaster that may occur during the One Day International Cricket Match being played between India and Australia on 29-09-2007.
This is for the first time in the history of Indian Cricket that a disaster management endeavor is being undertaken by a District Administration. The game which is expected to attract over 55,000 spectators to the stadium on the day will have 13 different Departments (Stake Holders) of the District involved in the Disaster Management Team monitoring the event from 9am the morning till the event winds up.
The team will act upon any kind of disaster at the premises instantly. “Events attracting huge crowd may attract any kind of disaster. It thus becomes important and relevant to undertake this exercise in order to prevent, manage and mitigate possible tragedies" says M.A. Sadiq, Chief Disaster Controller, District Disaster Management Committee and Deputy Commissioner Bangalore Urban District.
He said the departments that would be involved in this exercise would be Revenue, BBMP, Police ( Law&Order), Police ( Traffic), Police ( Control Room), Fire, Bomb Disposal&Detection Squad, Dept Of Health&Family Welfare, BWSSB, BESCOM, Dept Of Information, Dept Of Medical Education and Tejus Crisis and Trauma Foundation an NGO.
As part of the emergency needs of the exercise the District Administration will ensure arrangement of 10 beds for first aid, 10 doctors to attend on the spot, 15 paramedical staff and 10 ambulances would be made available at the venue. In addition to this a total of 200 beds will be reserved at 10 different hospitals across the city.
