Uncappped Subramaniam Badrinath will step in for the injured Gautam Gambhir as India bid to draw level with Australia in the ongoing one-day series.
Gambhir missed Monday's fourth match in Chandigarh -- which India won by eight runs to make it 1-2 -- due to a groin strain and will miss the remaining three games.
Badrinath, a prolific right-hand batsman in domestic cricket, was called up to join the Indian squad for the fifth match to be played in Vadodara on Thursday.
The 27-year-old, who has yet to play a Test or one-day international, hit a double-century for India 'A' in the recent home series against the South African second-string.
"It's a dream come true," said Badrinath, who is currently playing for the Rest of India in the five-day Irani Cup fixture against national champions Mumbai in Rajkot.
"Playing for India has been a childhood dream for me and I am delighted that I am close to achieving that now."
The Indian team for the last two matches in Nagpur (October 14) and Mumbai (Oct 17) will be named after the Vadodara game.
