Kapil backs Dhoni as Test captain

Kolkata: Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev today said M S Dhoni was doing a brilliant job and should be made the Test team's captain also.

Talking to the reporters during a promo-tour of the city, the iconic cricketer said, ''Dhoni is doing such a fine job. He should be given more time to settle down."

''Asked who should be the Test team skipper, he said, ''M S Dhoni should be the obvious choice. He has won a World Cup for the country. '' The 1983 World Cup wining skipper congratulated Dhoni on winning the Twenty20 World Cup. ''It was a fabulous win. The people have accepted Twenty 20. And its is good for cricket,'' he averred.

Asked if he noticed a shortcoming in the side, he said, ''A true all-rounder is missing.''

Commenting on the Indian Premier League, launched by the BCCI to counter the Indian Cricket League, he said, ''The IPL and ICL are parallal organisations. It will only develop cricket in the country."

''It will augur well for the juniors, who will get more exposure and international taste of the game,'' he added.

Asked to comment on the monkey chants during the India-Australia series, he said, '' Racism always existed. It was there when we played. It is there now and will be there in future also. The media is unnecessarily blowing it out of proportions.''
