Bangalore: Former India skipper Rahul Dravid and out-of-sorts wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik have been dropped for the first two one-dayers against Pakistan.
Delhi swashbuckler Sehwag, who was axed for the twin tours of Ireland and England due to poor form, regained his place.
Dravid, 34, averages less than 10 in his last 10 ODIs and was dropped for the final one-dayer against Australia earlier this month.
Announcing the team in Ahmedabad during the ongoing Challenger Trophy series, Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar said that former captain Dravid was given a 'rest' after a disappointing home series against Australia.
"We wanted to give him a break for a while," Vengsarkar told a news conference on Saturday.
"He is a great player. He will be back very soon."
Rookie right-arm seamer from Uttar Pradesh, Praveen Kumar earned a spot in the squad following his outstanding performances in the previous first-class season. Praveen playing for India Reds in the ensuing Challengers Series has bowled exceptionally well. He has plucked 9 wickets at 13 apiece in two games.
However Badri and Manoj Tiwary, who are fit and in rich vain of batting form, are dreadfully unlucky to miss the bus.
Pakistan will play five one-day internationals and three Tests in India from Nov. 5.
Squad (first two one-dayers): Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk,capt), Irfan Pathan, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Sreesanth, Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik.
