Challengers: India Blue sets up title clash with Reds

Ahmedabad: Clinical India Blue overpowered Greens by 91 runs in the third and final league tie to set up title clash with Reds in the NKP Salve Challengers Trophy here at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera on Saturday.

Chasing a mamoth target of 331, India-Green meekly surrendered to be bowled out for 239 runs in 38.2 over.

Barring Test discard India-Green's skipper Parthiv Patel and Rohit Sharma, who made individual contributions of 53 and 48 runs respectively, no other batsman showed the temperament needed for such an uphill task.

The Man-of-the-Match award was won by India-Blue captain Virendra Sehwag, who made a comeback to the Indian for the ODI series against Pakistan, for his enterprising knock of 75 runs in just 57 balls.

For India-Green, the top batting order comprising Yusuf Pathan, S Anirudha, M Tiwary and C A Pujana displayed a spineless batting performances.

Blues spinners Romesh Powar and A Mishra  put up spirited performances taking three wickets each while military medium pacer Joginder plucked two vital wickets.

India-Blue will take on India-Red led by Mohammed Kaif in the final to be played at same venue on Sunday.

India Blue 330 for 8 in 50 overs ( Sehwag 75, Arjun Yadav 65, Dinesh Karthik 65, Neeraj Patel 22; Abdullah 2 for 56, Chawla 2 for 60, Munaf 1 for 52) beat India Green 239 all out in 38.2 overs (Parthiv Patel 53, Rohit Sharma 48, Tiwary 18; Powar 3 for 45, Amit Mishra 3 for 50, Joginder 2 for 29) by 91 runs.
