Bangalore: Ace India leg spinner Anil Kumble will lead six time champions Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy Super League for the current season.
Former India captain Rahul Dravid, who has been dropped from the national side for the upcoming home one-dayers against Pakistan, was also named in the 15-member squad announced here by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Monday. Kumble and Dravid alongwith seniors Sunil Joshi, Yere Gouda Barrington and Tilak Naidu add much needed depth to the squad.
Karanatak have an aweful lot of good young players in the current squad like uncapped India Colts left-arm spinner K P Appanna and right-hand bat Devraj Patil, paceman Dhananjaya and all-rounder C Raghu.
Vijay Bharadwaj, the former India player was appointed as coach after Rajesh Kamat, the original appointee, had joined the rebel Indian Cricket League.
The team will take on reigning champions Mumbai on Nov 3 in their first outing, an away match. The squad which had a 20-day training camp at Mysore Infosys grounds, will leave for Mumbai on Nov 1.
