Jamshedpur: An unbeaten 69 by Jatin Saxena helped Madhya Pradesh save the day as the visitors managed to score 100 for four on day one against Jharkhand in their Ranji Trophy plate group B tie at the Keenan stadium here today.

Jharkhand won the toss and elected to field but the soggy outfield forced the umpires to start the match after lunch.

Taking advatage of the condition, Jharkhand pace duo S S Rao and Kuldeep Sharma struck early by picking up the wickets of Madhya Pradesh openers Mudassar Pasha (6) and Naman Ojha (1) respectively.

But Jatin Saxena stood like a rock and captain Brijesh Tomar (19) joined him after D Bundela's departure for 1 as Rao took his second scalp.

Saxena added 67 runs with Tomar for the fourth wicket which was broken by Sunny Gupta when Tomar gave a bat-pad catch at silly point to Ratan Kumar.

Jatin's unbeaten knock was studded with five hit to the fence.

Jalaj Sharma remained not out without facing a ball when the match was called off due to bad light.
