Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra settle for draw

Chennai: Tamil Nadu failed to force a first innings lead being restricted to 338 for seven reply in to Maharashtra's 430 in 116 overs, including 11 mandatory, after bad light stopped play 30 minutes before the draw of stumps on the fourth and final day here on Tuesday.

With the match ending unfinished, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra got just one point each. While Tamil Nadu bowlers failed to restrict Maharashtra who batted first, their star batsmen Dinesh Karthick (56,159 mnts, 96 balls, seven fours, one six) and skipper S Badrinath (retired hurt 72,142 mnts, nine fours, three sixes) failed to build on their scores.

Tamil Nadu were handicapped as Badri developed cramps and had to return back to the pavillion. Badri cried off after putting on 41 runs for the sixth wicket with south paw K Sri Vasudeva Das(33) for the sixth wicket off 94 balls ad 66 more for the seventh off 16 overs with R Srinivasan (62).

For Maharashtra, medium pacers Munaf Patel, who drew first blood today when Tamil Nadu resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 58-3, and Wahid Sayyed captured two wickets each, while left arm spinner Salil Agarkar (1-118) and off spinner, skipper Venugopala Rao (1-22) picked up a wicket each.

Tamil Nadu are scheduled to take on reigning champions Mumbai on home turf here from November 15, while Maharashtra are scheduled to play Rajasthan.
